Kenya & other African Beach Holidays

Mombasa is the largest port on the East Coast of Africa. North and south of the characterful harbour and the colourful old town are some very good beach resort hotels set on a lovely sandy coastline which is protected by coral reefs. An excellent setting in which to relax after the excitement of a safari or as a complete 1 or 2 week beach holiday. During May-Sept seaward can collect on some of the beaches - it is harmless but can restrict watersports. Also harmless, but sometimes a nuisance, are some good natured beach hawkers.

Charter flights to Mombasa are Mondays from London Gatwick on Monarch Airlines. Scheduled flights are also available with Kenya Airways, BA and KLM to Nairobi and onward to Mombasa with Kenya Airways - supplements normally apply.

NYALI BEACH HOTEL (Standard/First Class). Ref. DW258

Positioned four miles north of Mombasa, and about 30 minutes from the airport. The hotel has delightful spacious grounds leading to the beach and offers a wide choice of facilities and activities. Excellent value for money.
Facilities. Good choice of restaurants and bars plus regular evening entertainment including a nightclub and casino. The are 3 pools including one for children. There is a jacuzzi, shops and a beauty salon. Floodlit tennis courts are available as is (at extra cost) squash and golf at the Nyali 18 hole golf course which is only 5 minutes drive away. The is free use of windsurfers and canoes. Other watersports, at extra cost, include sailing, scuba diving and glass bottom boat rides.
Accommodation. 170 air conditioned rooms all have coffee making facilities, bath, shower and phone. The guide price is based on Garden Wing rooms which have balcony or terrace, mini bar and garden view. Palm Wing rooms are closer to the beach (supplement applies).

Attractively situated in lush grounds on a sandy beach at Shanzu, 12 miles north of Mombasa town and 30 minutes drive from the airport (private transfers to and from the hotel are included).   The Serena Beach is probably the best hotel in the Mombasa area at the present time – its traditional architecture, beautiful gardens and superb Kenyan hospitality make it highly recommended.
Facilities.   A choice of restaurants and bars, including a swim-up pool bar and complimentary tea and coffee are served throughout the day.   In addition to the main swimming pool, there is a children’s pool, and FREE watersports include windsurfing (excluding instruction) and an introductory scuba lesson.   Snorkelling, glass bottom boat trips and scuba diving courses can also be arranged from the hotel. The hotel also has a shop, fitness centre, squash and tennis courts, and operates a shuttle bus service into Mombasa town.   Regular evening entertainment includes local music and dancing.
Accommodation.   166 rooms, all with bath, shower, air-conditioning, mini-bar, television, telephone and balcony or patio. Village rooms are in authentic Lamu style houses and make up the original part of the hotel.    Garden rooms are newer and more spacious - supplements apply as they do for Suites, which are also suitable for families.

Idyllically set in spacious tropical gardens right on the white sandy Diani Beach, surrounded by coral coves. Is 45 minutes south of Mombasa and about 75 minutes from the airport. Now one of the best hotels on the Kenya coast
Facilities. A good choice of restaurants and bars including a poolside bistrao, an oceanfront pizzeria and a beachside bar. A large freeform pool is located on the beachfront together with an excellent watersports centre offering scuba diving, windsurfing, deep sea fishing and glass bottom boats (all extra cost). Free activities include beach volleyball, water polo, table tennis and nature walks. Tennis is also available and close by is an 18 hole golf course. There is regular evening entertainment..
Accommodation. 155 rooms in double story blocks and cottages spread about gardens. All are air conditioned with bath, shower, phone, mini bar and satellite TV. Deluxe rooms are available at a supplement.
The hotel is closed early-May until mid-June
